Dont give your pet away

Lately, I was talking to some of my classmates about pets and they asked me whether I will be giving Taro away when I get pregnant...and without any hesitation I said "NO".
And one of my mates asked why I wont be giving Taro away as cats are BAD for pregnant women. And my reply was, would you give him away.........aint he cute?

Anyways, my point is that you don't give away your pet just because he or she is giving you a problem....try to research on it and find some solutions or speak to your vet about your pet issues..............(always weight your pros and cons before making any major decisions that will affect your pet and trust me there is a solution to everything...so don't throw or give away your pet just because it is giving you a headache)

Following are some cat and dog facts:
For pregnant women - Toxoplasmosis is an infection caused by a parasite called Toxoplasma gondii. This parasite is carried by cats and is passed in their feces (stool). However, people are more likely to get toxoplasmosis from eating undercooked meat or gardening than from contact with pet cats.

  1. By following simple safety tips, pregnant women can reduce the risk of getting toxoplasmosis from cats.
  2. If you own a cat, have a non-pregnant person change the litter box every day. If there is no one else to change the litter box, wear gloves and wash hands with soap and running water after changing the litter.
  3. Risk may be reduced if the litter box is changed every day.
  4. Keep cats indoors.
  5. Avoid adopting or handling stray cats.
  6. Feed cats only canned or dried commercial cat food, never undercooked or raw meat.
  7. Do not bring a new cat into your house that might have been an outdoor cat or might have been fed raw meat.
  8. Also, it is better to have the pet before the baby as pet owners will most likely be immune to the parasite. In other words, don't buy a pet during pregnancy as the risk of not having the immune system is higher.

For babies - tendency of a cat jumping into the baby crate is very high, therefore it is pet owner's responsibility to ensure that the baby is not left alone. On the other hand, I have come across many families that have dogs and cats at home and their pets did not cause any hazards to their new family members. Instead, as the baby grew older, M (my mate's 4 year kid) cant seem to stop pulling her dog's and cat's tail. So cute for baby...but poor thing for pets...

Parents/Pet owners' responsibility - it is essential for the pet owners to make an effort to supervise toddlers when they are in contact with pets. For instance, when the toddler is giving a treat to a dog, especially big dogs, pet owners need to make sure that the dog is not feeling threaten and be present to supervise the procedure.

When out, parents need to teach their children not to pet on any animals/pets without the pet owner's permission. And always remember that once permission is given by the pet owner, it is not appropriate to pet on the dog's head immediately (a common mistake), always place your hand/palm below dog's nose and let dog sniff on your hand/palm and then stroke it underneath it's chin and slowly move upwards to it's head.

Introducing new members to the family - it is important not to forget to show love to pets when there is a new member in the family (new baby/pet, it is important not to neglect any old members in the family as this may cause jealously and may result in a change of character.

Home visit..4 cats at our place...meow

Today is the 1st time that Taro has his parents and little brother over at his place. Unfortunately there wasnt much playing going on here as the weather is at 38degrees.... However, Taro's little brother was playing with me for almost 45mins straight. Eventually he got tired and went to join Taro for a good afternoon nap.
P bear, Taro's little brother..stalking the red ball
Taro's mami, Purz...hanging out in the balcony as the tiles are cooler
Snuffie, Taro's pape...napping in the bathroom cause the tiles are even cooler than the balcony's ones.

P bear and Taro hanging out on the kitchen tiles next to the water bowl...hopefully the 2 boys will not turn the water bowl over....
